As you may have read in the Echo, the theme of “Growing in Grace” is on my heart for this coming month. It’s such a multi-faceted topic; we could spend all year on it! In the stories of Jesus’ resurrection appearances we are reminded of the mystery of the cross – fresh and confusing for the disciples. It represents grace delivered not just to the followers or chosen few. Remember, Jesus uttered this: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
What a calling for us – to grow in that kind of grace!
This week, we’ll ponder the grace of second chances as we retell the stories in John 21. Jesus hosts breakfast on a beach, gives the disciples tips on abundance, and restores Peter to service after his own failures. Jesus points he way forward for them and for us.
What a calling – to grow in that kind of grace!
A couple more glimpses of Grace…
This week we’ll spend some simple time honoring our teachers and mentors (see below). When we’re mindful of what we’ve received from others, we touch on the work of grace. When we say “thank you” our acknowledging encouragement give offer sustaining grace.
Lastly, the picture below shows the very full and well organized donations for the homeless and needy we’ve been storing and distributing since the February polar vortex. Volunteers from the Working Group on Homelessness have set this up for our final distributions over this next week before it gets stored and delivered off-site. To see the faces of those in need, coming to Eden to receive what has been secured (and prepared lovingly) FOR THEM has been a glimpse of grace for me.
May it be that we continue to grow in the grace God would have us know and share in wise ways.
In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Jacki
