Rev. Jacki BelilePerhaps you can appreciate how challenging it is to cover all the bases an average pastor might think need to be covered.

And, the words which are the right words, for the right time, with the right people, FOR THE RIGHT REASON (S).

Add to that the extroverts’ blind spot (thinking all situations might NEED words)…

Well, what a recipe for discernment!  (Yes, for many things, including sermons, every single week, in this epically difficult time and in loving service of a community with a diversity of needs.)

I do cling to this: We are a church in the tradition in which  “Word and Sacrament” are central.  Thankfully, “word” there doesn’t mean my thoughts du jour.  No, we claim the reality of the Word made flesh, the express image of God,  the giver of all new life, the one who lives still for advocacy, comfort and judgment.

May it be that ALL of our words (spoken and unspoken) be acceptable in the sight of God in these testing social times.  The literal meaning of “liturgy” is “the work of the people.”  So, I ask you, I BEG YOU, to think and pray and dialogue with God as we prepare to be gathered in Christ’s name this week.  Then, we may be as transformed by resurrection as those first witnesses were.

May it be so!
In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Jacki
