So much is at stake in this election season. So much is at stake, and to make matters harder we have great division about WHAT is at stake. As I write, we do not yet know the outcome of the Presidential election, but we all know the intensity of our own and fellow citizens desires about the outcome.
My heart was warmed tonight in a devotional moment with fellow Baptist clergy, when a colleague stated firmly at the opening “No matter WHO wins the election, we are called to this time, for such a time as this.” His devotional on the book of Esther unpacked that it is ALWAYS “God’s time” to do right, to serve our calling, to be brave about whatever difficulties or sacrifices God calls us to, to be voices for Christ’s way of justice and peace.
I’m human, and I’m a fellow citizen. I have my set of feelings about this moment in our nation and world. But I pray daily for the strength and the wisdom to put it all in a higher and longer perspective. May my prayers and deeds continue to be refined, so that I might not so much get what I want as be who God wants me to be…
NO MATTER WHO WINS THE ELECTION.
In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Jacki
