Many weeks ago I committed that we’d join others across the nation in a dedicated opportunity to acknowledge and pray for First Responders on this Sunday. It’s part of what’s become “Faith and Blue” Weekend across the country. We’ll include some special prayer time and name some of our members and others in our spiritual care.
I’ve been thinking this week about our partnership with “the Blue” and other First Responders, and what it means to be a part of a social fabric entrusting law enforcement, crime prevention and intervention to others on our behalf. There is the part that is OURS to do… and the part only trained and trusted (and adequately resourced!) “experts” ought to do. Which is which and what is what?
The Biblical concept of covenant has been drawing me as I think of our message tomorrow. How our covenants with one another, societal covenants, covenants with God are a part of the way God’s guided us to CREATE a healthy and stable world. And, how frayed and fractured so many covenants are in our modern day.
Beyond these mullings, this is ALSO true. Taking time to pause, ponder, recognize and honor is always a life-giving and timely spiritual practice. As the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12, let’s “outdo one another in showing honor”!
Join us for refreshments in honor of these fellow citizens and this journey we’re on together tomorrow after worship! Would love to listen and share further!
In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Jacki
