The Rev. Jacki BelileI’ve always found those words so touching in their simplicity. When we sing them I feel I am lifting up a word of truth, a promise, AND a plea all at the same time.  May God indeed be revealed in how we are present with each other, and in how we bear witness of grace and generosity in all the circles of our lives.

This is a draining time, a testing time, for many of us.  Grace and generosity genuinely feel in short supply.  Lots of things feel empty or are empty.  The supply chains for instance, as Jesus also encountered at the wedding of Cana. (Thanks to Rev. Wayne for bringing us a fresh word on this tomorrow, a word on “Extravagant Abundance”.)

This is exactly why our wise faith tradition beckons us to look beyond OURSELVES and the limits of our circumstances. Even the limits of our hope. At the start of this next year, we anchor ourselves in the stories of Christ’s incarnation and the immeasurable hope our ancestors discovered in the gift of his presence.

I’ll miss you in worship tomorrow as we take a little break.  I look forward to Wayne’s message and also to the experience of ecumenical worship NEXT WEEK at Trinity and on zoom.  Our planning team has devised a beautiful service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (Jan. 18-25).  To follow along with us in devotional readings, check out the daily readings for those eight days here:
