Rev. Jacki BelileHas it always been so chaotic, such a mix of emotions and activities around this Sacred Season? I think perhaps so. There’s joy, hope, and exuberant cheers lifted by the Hosannas of the hopeful. There’s anxiety and fear swirling at the same time. There’s the urban scene of the kingdom (Jesus’ procession and community) and the weighty corruption of empire. Feels true of 2000 years ago and also today. And on an interpersonal level, many of us feel so pulled in so many directions (outwardly or inwardly).

I think the most important spiritual opportunity in this season is to come “home,” to settle down and come to center. To BE. Be centered in the Good News of Christ’s saving love. To dwell, sufficiently and substantially in what we say we believe: The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jonathan sang “Come and Find the Quiet Center” (Come and Find the Quiet Center – YouTube) last Sunday. It’s my prayer that each of the opportunities prepared for Holy Week 2021 will provide a way, an opening, for each of us to come to center in whatever way we need in this time.

In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Jacki
