On Wednesday night, Duane and I attended week two of the “Zoom Study” on Chronicles of Narnia with our friends from St. Peters’ UCC (Thanks to Rita for promoting!). One thread that came up – the necessity of our “moral compass” and the sad reality that not all who name themselves Christian may actually be using CHRIST as their compass.
When we are in alignment with our moral compass, we experience the strength we need to face our trials. How would you describe your moral compass in these days? This Sunday, we’ll reflect on Joseph’s moral strength as he undertakes marriage and solidarity with Mary and Jesus.
Another testimony to how I experience strength and the way this guards my hope… when I am reminded that I am not alone, that we are not alone in our endeavors, my spirit is renewed. That solidarity can be felt in ways smaller or larger. This week, I am strengthened by great teamwork in fundraising planning, by Daryl’s gearing up the snowblowers for our Snow Removal Team (click here to be on call).
I am strengthened by the noticeable “helping hands” – musicians like Carla, Kate and Sally blessing us, Duane tending open sanctuary with me, David A muscling through our year-end financial reports and planning, Olivia, Duane, Gene and Sally for sanctuary decorations, Andy B creating all the “prayer stars” for our outdoor nativity scene this year, so you and your neighbors can leave prayer requests. Larry designing and hanging our new campaign banner, Ed L and Debbie L tending lights and building order, Gene going on deep dive in archives with me next week, Kate for coordinating raffle tix sales/documentation, Stu for great design on new campaign website, Jenn, Rachel and Jan working on our special Advent program video for 12/20…. the list can go on and on!
I know this is a partial list, but consider it part advent-revelations. We are strengthened when we feel connected and know how we can help (or receive help). There is a joy in well-discerned sharing of our gifts and time; that’s the way we’re designed.
This world is in a holy mess and we need all the strength we can get. What do you need this season – from your inner compass? From your community? Be mindful of this, set aside the time to discover it and name it. This honest prayer will give you the seeds of the strength you need!
In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Jacki
