“Let there be light” certainly is drawn from the Genesis 1 text we’ll be reflecting on this Sunday, as we turn to our Fall season of treasuring teachings and stories of our Jewish ancestors.  Why not start at the beginning?  

“Let there be light” might also refer to the parlor lights (or others) now fixed by Trustee Ed, or the relatively more glowing vibe of the building due to cleaning, organizing and primping labors of Debbie L., Daryl, Penny, Katie, Rita, Carla, Olivia, Dale, Dave C, Duane, Larry and myself over the last few weeks. These labors of love ensured a Rally Day last week that was a rich kick-off to the year (19 in person, 17 on zoom).

“Let there be light” might also refer to the light shed by Word itself, the song it inspires, or the glow of fellowship known in hybrid assembly (body, spirit and zoom) last week and this week. (September 27th we’ll meet solely by Zoom to ensure the smoothest transition and inclusivity for our business meeting.)

“Let there be light” might well also apply to the wisdom we constantly seek for direction for our lives within and outside the shared commitments at Eden. Or, to the truths underlying the painful divisions of our time, which would shed guidance and create conditions of empathy should it “break forth.”  Or to the determined faithful walkers and fundraisers who SEE us ending hunger “one step at a time” through the work of CropWALK to end hunger.

Join us for worship this Sunday as we reflect on the wisdom of the Creation story for us today, with a remembrance of the One who gives Light and so much more we need.  May it be that whatever Light You need will warm your soul and lead your way in these days.
